Career pillars.
Is it even a Corporate presentation if it doesn't use a graphic similar to this talking about pillars?
But it is a great way to illustrate the important foundations of things. And I cannot over emphasize these things being the most important for career success:
Relationships: only 1 time in my career did I get a job without knowing someone. The other 15 times it has been because of relationships! Relationships also help you get nominated for awards, recommended for projects and connected to other people who may advance your career.
Knowledge: you must know something. I have chosen to know a little bit about a lot of things. Some like to know a lot of things about a few chosen topics. Whatever route you go, generalist or expert, you must have knowledge and use it to offer value to others.
Your "how": be the person you want to work with. Bring energy and thought leadership. Reflect on what others would say about you, would they want to work with you if they didn't have to? It's not just what you do, but how you do it.
Visibility is an important foundation and underpinning to these pillars of career success. You could be so good at these 3 areas, but without visibility it won't matter.
Which of these pillars will you focus on this week?
