Managing up.

Doing a good job at work isn’t enough. Managing up is a key skill needed for continued upward movement and success in your career.

Managing up is:

  • Being a valuable asset to your boss

  • Executing quickly and being on top of things your boss may need

  • Thinking as if you are a few levels up in the organization

Managing up is not:

  • Brown noising

  • Hanging out with the boss

  • Trying to get noticed by everyone

I think about managing up in 3 main ways:

  1. Anticipation of what your boss needs

  2. Thinking as if you are 2 levels up in the organization

  3. Helping your boss and team to shine
